I've been editing this thing for a friend and I don't know what I did but at some point I seem to have altered some of the footage. It is a different aspect ratio... It goes right down to the bottom of the viewer, but when I click on Item Properties it still says 720x480 (although the sequence is 640x480), which is the same as the other footage. All of this footage is in the same sequence. I wish I could explain better but I can't because I don't know what I did, I just have video of two different sizes in the same sequence, which sucks.

Many variables could be at play here. First, highlight all your clips, from the menu select remove attributes. Check basic motion, crop and distort. If the aspect ratios of any clips in the timeline still appear different than the others than something got digitized with a different setting.

If I remove attributes, though, will I be removing brightness corrections, etc... Everything got digitized together so it can't be that.

No, only the attributes you check off...you can always click undo.

I had a similar problem where FCP would distort my footage every time I inserted it in the time line.
So double click your footage and check to make sure it wasn't distorted on you.

Batutta, I owe you a beer big guy!
Don't know what happened but sure enough the two clips with the border had been affected in some way and Motion was available to be removed, which removed the border. Don't know why some clips ended up with it and not others but I'm guessing it's from my untrained ways of using FCP, copying, pasting, exporting, reimporting, blah, blah, blah...

Glad to be of assistance...Sometimes, if you have image+wireframe enabled in the canvas, you can move a clip by accident without noticing. You'll know it's enabled because when you highlight the clip in the timeline, a big X will show up on top of the picture. It's helpful if you want to move the image around or adjust the scaling and cropping in a more visual interface, rather than adjusting sliders and numbers, just be careful.
