there are times when i need to just stick the sxs card into my mbp and just grab 1 clip even though there may be like 50 on there. i keep hearing about not messing with the file structure. i always copy the entire BPAV folder to be safe but ive never just copied the clip folder. does it import and transfer with the xdcam transfer software or does it give you an error cause it cant find the BPAV folder?

In my experience I have also copied the BPAV folder over to my backup drive. And then I just Transfer the MOV file to a new location (import location).

If you use the Sony XDCAM Transfer software (either on its own or within FCP via the import window), you can pick any number or order of files you want to import from your SXS chip. You can also trim head and tails of files and import a smaller portion of a full take. The real benefit from using the Transfer software is that the software will convert the camera file(s) from the chip to a .mov QT file that you can view in FCP, QT et al. Dragging the BRAV folder works, but you still have to import the files to view them on your MBP. FWIW, the software is a free download from the Sony site. It sounds more complicated than it really is. Hope that helps.
