this happens about 1-2 times a shoot now. i turn the ex1 on and the iris is locked tight as if auto iris is on and wont let me adjust. its on manual. the only way to unlock it is to turn the ex1 off and on again, has anyone else encountered this?

check the "full auto" button on the side of the camera. It's easy to press accidentally.

i remember check it one time, i think i actually pressed it on and off to see if i could disengage it. ill make sure i focus on that next time but i dont think its it.

This happened to me once in the sun, and I couldn't see the light that indicated it was on. I'm glad that I caught it - it screwed up a take.
Many people have complained of this problem, and I've never seen an explanation other than this, though there may be.
There is some discussion on another forum of it being a defect, but I don't think anyone has had any success getting it fixed.

It has happened to me once, exactly as Adam described in the first post. Turning the camera off, then on made the problem go away.

Same problem here, a few times now. And the full-auto button definitly was not pushed...
same here....has started to happen a few times now. at first i thought it was my mistake. then i realize that the iris was in full manual. a simple on and off got it working again.
perhaps this does have something to do with having the lens pointed into the sun or into a light source which is very bright and "locks" up the camera.
