Hi guys,
I have been using my LCD screen alot. However I can only see pictures on it with the backlight switch on. When I off it, it is too dark .
It says in the manual that you switch the backlight on when it too dark. But I can't even use it without the backlight switch on all the time.
Is it my camera only or are you guys not having problem with it? or is there a switch that i don't know about?

Hi David,
The only use I can find for the LCD backlight in the OFF position is in the unlikely event you are in direct sunlight and can't shade the LCD. However, even in full sunlight, I've found that it's still better with the backlight ON. Go figure...
Sony may have included this as a power saving feature, but it's easy enough to tuck the LCD away to turn it off.
It's not a big draw on the battery, so I simply leave the BL switched on all the time. There are more than enough TINY switches on the EX1, in case you haven't noticed. They could lose this one and I wouldn't miss it, that's for sure.

I don't know yet how to switch the backlight on or off, but one thing I was really surprised by is how freakin' razor sharp that lcd display is! Whoa! When I look through the viewfinder the scene doesn't look so hot, but when I use the lcd it's amazing! Needless to say I only use the lcd. I've always been a 'viewfinder guy' in the past, even with my old digital 8 camcorder, because I'm used to still photography where I peer through the viewfinder. It also helps block everything else out so you're only seeing the composition you choose. But with the EX1 I'm holding it at different levels frequently (down low chasing my boy, or way in front of me as I follow him down slides and up ladders at the park, etc.), so I'm using the lcd for convenience and now I'm never going back.
Watching playback footage on that lcd is suh-weet too! Sony definitely did it 'right' with that one. I haven't looked at lcd screens from other cameras at this price range so they might be just as good... I dunno... so this is not a comparison, it's just my impressions... take all my impressions with a grain of salt and a shot of tequila, but I am impressed!

Well from my experience the LCD on the EX1 is much better than on other cameras in the same price range. Dont know about the EX3 though...
