Welcome to the dvxuser.com TimeFest 2008!

The time has finally come to enjoy the fruits of your labor over the past several months. As always, we have an interesting mix of films for this fest and it's been an interesting time previewing all your work. Regardless of how the voting turns out, we all appreciate the huge amount of work it takes to complete and submit a film -- all of you have our admiration and respect.

I'd like to take a moment to thank all the participating filmmakers, our users, the mods, and Jarred for letting us have these great fests.

Thank you to all those who provided mirror bandwidth.

You can view the films at

http://www.dvxfest.com/timefest/ (http://www.dvxfest.com/timefest/)

Changes to the system
When you click on the link above you will notice some changes right away. First, you will be asked to login. Please do so using your dvxuser.com username/password. If you have not logged into the festival system before, then it will take up to 30 seconds to complete, but subsequent logins should be instant.

Once you get logged in you will encounter the next change. Instead of a separate voting system (as we had last time) you will see a 10-star rating block next to each entry. As you watch the films, please come to this page and rate the film from 1 - 10. This rating is independent of the other films, simply rate the film where you think it falls from 1 - 10. If you have 5 entries that you think are a 9, then mark them all a 9 and the system will average out the results.

You can also re-rate a film. So if on subsequent viewings you realize you under-rated, or over-rated, a film you can change the number by re-clicking on the rating you wish to really give.

This will be part one of a two tiered voting system which will narrow the field down to the top films before a second round of voting -- details of which will be announced later.

If you have any questions about the system, or encounter any issues, please notify myself (Larry R) or any of the other mods and I will attempt to address the issue as quickly as possible.

TimeFest Sponsors / Prizes

As usual there will be a nice selection of prizes given out thanks to Jason Ramsey our prizemaster and our generous sponsors who always donate really cool stuff. When you buy from any of our sponsors be sure to let them know you appreciate their support of dvxuser and dvxfest.

There will be a separate post later with the details of the prize package.

Who is eligible to vote?

All current dvxuser.com members with 50 or more posts, plus all submitting filmmakers regardless of your post count. This applies only to the filmmaker that submitted the film, not the whole crew.

If you have less than 50 posts, but submitted a film, please let me (Larry R) know so I can authorize you in the fest system.

Congratulations to all the filmmakers that submitted entries and thanks to all the members participating.

NOTE: Mordere and The Rooster (listed in a separate box near the bottom of the download page) are for exhibition only -- there will be no option to vote for these films.

Next Fest
We'll announce the next fest as soon as voting ends for TimeFest

Zips seem to only have one file each in them. I'll try re-downloading but that's what is happening to me.

Larry R

The zips do contain 10 films each. Are you sure you received the full zip? they should be between 350 and 450 MB (I'll get the exact sizes in a moment).

Drew Ott

I'm re-downloading and they seem to be working. The download would jump from about 5% to 100% and then the folder would just have one film. I'm trying again and I'll tell you if I'm successful. Looks like I will be.

EduardoMiguel

so let me get this straight... so you have to be a dvxuser.com member to watch the films? No hyperlinking?

Jason Ramsey
06-19-2008, 12:51 PM
No. you don't... Larry will likely provide a direct download link for each film that you can post in your thread, etc.

Blaine. Try again. There may be an issue with one server. But, if you refresh and try again, it should work.

Larry's working on the kinks with the zip files, though

Later,
Jason

You have to be a dvxuser member to vote. I will provide you a direct url to use for providing access to your film later.

Hrm. I downloaded Aetas separately...and it seems to start glitching for me at about 3:40 in. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Jason Ramsey
06-19-2008, 12:53 PM
try downloading it again. I watched a version of it and it played fine. May just be a bad transfer to one server.

Jason Ramsey
06-19-2008, 12:57 PM
just note the films/files you have problems with so we can look into it, and then try again until it works. there will be some glitches until it all gets worked out and verification to the mirrors and all, but that takes time, and you all are so impatient and probably don't want to wait another week for that to happen :)

There are tons of mirrors, so if at first you don't succeed, try again until you find a mirror that works.

Jason

I'm getting a message that the zip does not exist...so I'm downloading individually...:( Sorry about that ... please try again.

The zips are currently only two of the mirrors, but I'm trying to get them to others. Being so large it takes a while. But if you try again it may hit the other mirror and work better for you.

Larry R
06-19-2008, 02:44 PM
yes, you can see the films just can't vote. There is an issue with our login system. If you have never logged in at the dvxfest site before it won't let you in.

In that event, I have a work around for you. I'll PM you the info in a minute.

Hi there, good work getting the viewing up so quickly, thanks for that.

How long are you gonna give for us to download and and cast our votes?

also are you pretty happy with the 10 movie-zips? I mean, do you know if there were many replacement films sent after the zips were made?

thanks,
Derrick

Larry R
06-19-2008, 02:49 PM
Thanks...glad to get it up for you guys. It's a struggle to get it done so fast sometimes, especially with all the new code this time, but it's worth it in the end.

There will be more information given on how much time we have for voting soon. We're working out some dates now and will let you know when it's decided.

No replacement files came in after the zips were created this time. :)

Anybody else having trouble with MPEG4s? Neither QT or WinAmp will play any of them. I do get audio in WinAmp, so I know the file is there.

Larry R
06-19-2008, 03:40 PM
I had trouble with the mp4 files on my computer at work, but they play fine at home and for the other's that helped with the review process. Not sure if it's an issue with QT, I didn't check to see if I had the most recent here at work or not.

I don't see the rating 10 star block. Is it not up yet?

Larry R
06-19-2008, 03:47 PM
The rating block only appears if you have 50+ posts. For those who have less than 50 posts, but entered a film into the fest I can update their record to allow them to vote.

I've activated your record so you can vote since you entered a film.

Larry, I just got through downloading all the zipped files. I don't see O2 amongst them. It looks like O2 will have to be downloaded separately?

Larry R
06-19-2008, 04:02 PM
It should be in there ... but it's possible I missed it in one of them ... for now download it on it's own ... in the meantime I'll try to figure out where it should be and stick it back in.

Thanks for the heads up

Hi Larry,

It's not letting me log in either. Can I get the fix?

Jack Daniel Stanley
06-19-2008, 05:15 PM
Larry just saw the interface - awesome. So simple and effective. Love that we stay on the same page rather than going to a new one. Love the graphical interface for the star rating and that you can see how you've rated all the films at a glance!

I know we're "rating" not "ranking" but the way the star panel is laid out makes it easy to make sure you're ratings have been dolled out on some sort of logical curve and reflect your opinion best.

Great job.

Guys we'll get the log in issue sovled here soon. If Larry's offline later PM me, or one of the other Mods and we can help you get on.

Jason Ramsey
06-19-2008, 09:01 PM
Just to add to Jack's statement with those of you having log in issues.

Shoot a pm to Larry letting him know you are having an issue, and then go to this thread:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=138745

Use the login info provided there. That'll get you in and downloading the films in the meantime until Larry has time to get the bug worked out.

Later,
Jason
