Hey all-
Been reading up on this forum and it's been a tremendous resource. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
We have been shooting a documentary in Los Angeles for Canal Plus on the EX1. We have been shooting on 50i PAL with the shutter set at 1/60 to match the hertz here in the States (reduces flicker when shooting under certain lights). Canal Plus does not broadcast in HD so we will be delivering a 16x9 SD copy.
My main question deals with the SD NTSC archival footage that we will be cutting into the show. When requesting a format from the various sources, what is the best (or at least acceptable) format to ask for? Should we get a Digi-Beta or Beta NTSC and then transfer to say mini-dv PAL? (I'm just trying to think of a good way to ingest into final cut pro.)
Also, some of the sources just want to send an NTSC DVD. I've used mpegstreamclip in the past to convert DVD files to workable quicktime files in FCP, but I'm not sure how it will work trying to convert from NTSC to PAL and then cutting in the SD footage into the timeline.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Chad
