Hiya Xdcammers, Just thought i would share my experiences of the "vacation" im on with my brand new EX-1 kit. (details below). i quote the vacation part because for one, as i write this blog, i have not slept since i woke up on wednesday morning at 7am eastern and it is now past midnight in seattle, wa. i think thats like 41 hours r sumthin'. ive always wanted to see seattle and vancouver, so i stayed up all night getting shots and then hopped on the train to bc for a few hours and then had to run my ass off to get to the last train out back to seattle. we hop on the cruise ship tomorrow and head for alaska, which will be my 1st time there as well. i will post some clips when i can, and some stills as well. i just wanna say that so far i have abused the hell out of the ex-1 with the style of shooting i have to accomplish (alone.....at night...or day....with a $10k backpack is not such an easy thing to be comfortable with.) and the camera has hung in there like a champ. clips/stills next post. i hope.

thanks
Kevin Armstrong

heres the inital 30 second trailer. i am planning on putting a "vacation experience" dvd together for the group that went on the trip (about 40) so this is mainly to show them a tiny taste of what they can expect. no color correction done yet, so all clips are straight from the camera.

Nice shots...just got the EX-1 today...haven't had time to really shoot with it...but does the camera internally time stretch? I notice the many shots that you've taken are ramped up or down. I know I've got work to do with discovering the bells and whistles of the camera. I convinced my job to purchase it...I attended a Sony reseller workshop presentation and was blown away...after reading and seeing your posts I'm excited. Thanks for sharing.

I'd love to know how you're doing the time lapse too... Looks as gorgeous as film. Love the ripple dissolve.

timelapse was done in 1080/24p hq mode. some of it was done with the ex-slow shutter effect, which is key if you want a lil motion blur on youre timelapse shots. just make sure you setup the shot you want first and keep your finger on the ND switch before you turn it on outside, things go white pretty fast with an extra 16frames of light to every 1 frame of video.

also, i should mention. when u wana use the slow shutter, make sure you setup the shot in advance and frame properly. use some gain at night if you need to see more, then turn it off and activate the slow shutter to shoot. this will save you from alot of fustration and improper framing.
