Ready...here we go:

You may want to sticky this for others, if you find it useful: (Thank you Brandon Rice and Jack Daniel Stanley and Blaine for the info)

I exported 800 by 400...this might not work for every film. If you are 16:9 render at 800 by 450 or whatever 16 by nine ratio you want. I*t might be best to go 720 by 405 to be safe on size... :-) Good luck!

Compression setting for exact 50mb limit:

Render an uncompressed AVI or Quicktime file from NLE (800 x whatever your aspect ratio is if you can...SD 16x9 works too).

Import into Quicktime Pro

Click Export:
Make frame size 800 x whatever your ratio is:

Set compressor to h.264

Set bit rate to restrict to 850 or 980 kbits

One pass.

Set Audio to AAC at 48hz 98 kbps Stereo.

There you have it! Good luck!

I have never had good h.264 results out of Premiere CS3. Only Quicktime Pro. it costs 29.99 but it is HIGHLY worth it.

I exported using CS3's media encoder. Here are my settings if you wanna try it.
H.264
720x405
Widescreen 16:9
VBR 2 Pass
Target bitrate: .96Mbps
Maximum bitrate: 2Mbps

Audio
AAC
48khz Quality High
bitrate 192kbps

My movie is 6:01 and comes out as a 49.6meg file.

Looks/sounds good to me but your mileage may vary :)

I don't suppose anyone has suggestions for export from Premiere Pro 2.0? Seems the settings in the media encoder are a bit different...

Okay... so, I've just finished a test export from Premiere Pro 2.0, and... I'm concerned.

My 26 second test clip is 19 mb.

Here are my settings:

VIDEO

Format - Quicktime
Codec - H.264
Frame - 720 x 300
Frame Rate - 24fps
Field Order: Progressive
Aspect Ratio - Square
Bitrate - 650 kbps

AUDIO

Apple Lossless
Mono
16 bit
44khz

PLEASE... someone tell me they know how to fix this.

hmm, seems high. I dunno. It's hard to say though with 26seconds. I'd worry about it more with your final edit. The full 6 minutes would be better to play with i think. But i don't have Premiere Pro 2.0 so i can't really comment.

I think part of the reason must be your audio settings. If your audio is not compressed well it will make your file size go over real quick.

It looks like your video settings are reasonable so the audio thing is the only potential problem I can see...

Ok so i recorded in 29.970p instead of 24p (i know im a newb) and when I go to render out of Vegas 8 Pro. I try these setting you guys have put and it says "The selected Codec does not support the current rendering settings." Any tips on what I am doing wrong?

PS This is my first time ever exporting out of Vegas (I know another newb mistake) so If any of you guys edit off of Vegas what setting do you use to keep it under 50mb?

Alright, so I broke down and upgraded to Quicktime Pro aaand...

Wow. Why wasn't I using this before? :)

Exported out an uncompressed AVI per Msconce's suggestion, then imported into QT and compressed ... down to 45 mb.

Success!

Buy Quicktime Pro and use the settings listed here. Export as an uncompressed AVI file from Vegas.

I'm actually having trouble with the uncompressed AVI file. My exports have errors at 4gb.

Hmmm...Ok compression went fine according to the director, I have in my hands our 6 minute film, encoded with H.264, 46MB's.

Problem is, when I play it back in QT Pro, it skips every few seconds, but when I import it into Premiere CS3 to watch it, it plays back fine. (After rendering)

Will this be okay to upload, or should I try to get a re-exported version?

Ok...The file also plays fine in VLC Player. Seems like a QT problem to me.

I would try it in quicktime in another system. If it glitches, re-export. :badputer:

Having some troubles.

I've been testing out methods of compression all day and I have two issues that I need help with.

1) After not having this issue for about 10 renders from Quicktime, all of the sudden I have no audio that goes along with my video. There is audio and video when I play the file in other media players like WMP and VLC, but not Quicktime. When I go to my export setings, all of the audio options are greyed out.

2) The first second or so of video is really muddy once I export out of Quicktime. I don't have anything like "internet streaming" selected. The issue worsened when I did a multi-pass render.

If anybody knows the answers to these, it would help me out a lot. At the moment my compression is terrible on a few levels.

Thank you! This was helpful. I was able to get my file exported at 720x360 with the higher 980 setting and still come in under 50mb!

So ... the 4GB file size limit might be due to your settings on the hard-drive you are trying to send it to. I've had that problem a lot until I reformatted the hard drive (to a different format). Sounds like your using PC so, I don't know a good format to switch it to (I'm on Mac), but once I changed my format, I was able to export >4GB.

Dammit, quicktime. MPC, VLC, and Nero Showtime all play the file fine, but Quicktime for some reason decides it's going to play the video a quarter-second behind the audio. Wonderful. Awesome. Great.

Thanks. My external was using FAT32 which limits to 4gb. I just rendered out to my internal and it worked.

I did a higher quality compression but there's this annoying black box around the film like letterbox but it's on the sides too :(

Should I upload the one with higher quality but an obnoxious black box or the one with lower quality but no black box?

Question... should you or should you not check off the "prepare for internet streaming" box?
