Hi,
After capturing my avi files, I transferred them to an external hard drive. Everything was fine until I defragged the external drive. Now the video files play fine, but have digital artifacts in them, like this. Does anyone know of a way to fix them? I'm using a PC.

Yep, that's the only thing I've done to the drive. It seems to have affected all the avi files on the drive. I still have the tapes. I was hoping to not have to recapture. It's several hours of footage.

It's seems to have corrupted them in some way. Not sure what codec your using and even if something like that is at all fixable.
If it was me rather than wait for an answer I would format the drive and re-capture...if it was me.
Ive been editing on a PC for about 15years and have defragged a hell of lot of drives that I use for capture with never a problem.
Sorry that I cant help in anyway.

Thanks. Something strange happened. I let it sit all day long turned off (the external HD), and when I turned it back on the clips were fine. Don't know what it was, but it's all better now. Whew!
