Hi all:
I am shooting a lot with the EX-1 and am liking the footage. As a P2 shooter primarily, I use the P2 formatting software on my MBP when shooting long interviews to keep cycling the cards.
Is there any way to format SxS cards while shooting? I looked in the EX-1 Clip Browser and didn't find a formatting function. Is the only way to format SxS cards using the camera?
Probably a dumb question but can't figure it out.
Thanks,
Dan

Yes there is!
Let's say you are recording on a card in Slot A, and the card in Slot B is the one you wish to erase...
While Recording on A, bring up the menu, and navigate to the last main menu. In there, scroll to the bottom until you see the Clips sub-menu. In there, you can erase all clips or format the B card.

You can do this while the camera is recording to the other card?

Yes, I just tried it myself. The EX1 is a multitasking wonder. It will lock the card being written to, so you can't erase anything being presently recorded, so there'll be only one slot choice to format and yes, it works. In fact, just about all menu functions seem to be available, as long as they don't directly affect recording format.

Wow, that's pretty amazing, I will try it. Thanks for checking that out for me.

Yep, works great. Another feature that Sony has that I wish Panasonic had. I can use the P2 formatting application when I shoot P2 after I dump the cards but it's nice to have options like the EX-1 gives you.

HI, Dan
You might also want to look at Shotput from Imagine Software, which is a great SxS unloading app with option to format the card in the computer after off-loading.
