Pretty straight forward.
I feel the best training is to go hang out on a set. Look, listen and ask questions. Do some free gigs if you have to.
There is also some great books on various subjects of film making that are available.

That would be great advice...if we all lived in california. I live in michigan and you can imagine the film scene here. :o I wish I could be in a place with more filmmaking going on but at this point its not possible. :'(
