Hey guys I need to add another camera to my show and I have access to a VX100. Would the footage match? Are there any issues that would come up and not make sense for me to shoot it this way?
Thanks in advance.

The Sony VX1000 will only shoot interlaced, 4x3 video. I'd say that you can get the two camcorders to match reasonably well, as long as you're shooting 4x3 interlaced.

I own a DCR-VX1000 and an HVX200 and I like them both ... I just wish that the Sony could shoot widescreen and progressive.

These older generation 3-chip cameras have poor color rendition and low resolution. These will stick out like a sore thumb. Only do this if you absolutely have to.

Actually the VX1000 is really nice in quality and color rendition, I think more so than many of the models that followed in it's wake. I get the feeling that Sony put much more into the making of it's first groundbreaking camcorder, than it did in the followup models thereafter. I even read an article by Dan Brockett on the 12 bit 32 khz sound of the VX1000 being superior in test results to most of the 48 khz models that Sony put out later.

While the VX1000 doesn't have the color space of DVCPro, and adjustable gamma settings like the DVX or HVX, it has a great video color reproduction in it's standard video and it shouldn't be too difficult to tweak a DVX to match closely to it.

That being said, it still does not have the vertical resolution of progressive video, and no widescreen recording so ....... that part is a bummer.

I hate to bring this back up.. but what about the DVX + GL. Good idea, bad idea?

I wouldn't match the DVX up with anything less than an XL2. The difference is just really obvious.

I wouldnt match the DVX against anything from sony or an XL2. Maybe the XHA1, but even then. Good lord I hate sony...

Thanks for the comparison!

I think for what it can shoot, the Sony does a great job. The obvious difference in quality, right off the bat, is that the DVX can shoot progressively, thereby doubling the vertical resolution. Also, you can punch up the gamma, in camera, on the DVX to get some more contrast. On the VX1000 you have to do it in post.

To get the most out of the VX1000 in post you have to slightly underexpose when shooting.

I still think if shooting 4x3 interlaced video, you can mix and match footage with tweaking. Otherwise, don't bother if you want to shoot progressively.
