I'm looking at a different Matt Box for my HVX. Just wanted to know if anyone has used this brand (Redrock) before and if the company that sells it is good to work with?

Here are two photos of the Matt Box that I have now; In the first photo - the Matt Box on top was used on my Dvx and the one on the bottom of the photo is the one that came with the HVX.
The second photo is a close up of the Matt Box I used with my DVX100. I have been thinking of using it for the HVX but will need to get a 82mm to make it work.

The Redrock mattebox is just now coming on the market, I think only a very few people have seen the final product. I've spent some time with a prerelease version and I haven't seen anything anywhere that comes close to it, at its price point.

I noticed that the Matt Box that came with the HVX has a 16x9 layout in it cutting the top and bottom off of the lense. I was wondering if that helps with filming in 16x9 and if I change the Matt Box would I need to get the same cut out?

It's all about blocking stray light. Ideally, in an ultimate light-control world, you'd have a different 16:9 matte for each lens in your kit, because the mattes would block all light from every possible angle depending on the field of view of your lens.

Just ordered the Redrock matte this afternoon! I'll let you know how it is... sometime in late July or early August.

Semila;
I tried to get a hold of Redrock but all I get is their answering machine - no live person (tried a number of times today). I did email them but haven't heard back. When you ordered your Mattbox did you talk to a live person?

I have a Red Rock Follow Focus/Rods and am waiting on a MatteBox and Shoulder mount. I always order by the web. I don't think they run with much of a staff. Best bet is to contact them through their community forum. A lot of good info there as well. Brian Valente is very helpful and tries to communicate as fast as possible to questions.
Products can't be beat for the money.

For redrock its best to go to the forums and ask a question. There are certain threads for your questions, and the answers are most likely there already. I would just order online, if you have questions before you order visit the forum. They creep the forums a lot.

Hi new Zealand- sorry I didn't see your question earlier. I ordered directly from their website. Congrats on your purchase- let's see who gets it first!
