Is it a simple matter to take the component out of an hvx200 and feed it to a vga monitor? Whats needed? A break out box or converter or something?

Google Shopping Search (http://www.google.com/products?q=component+to+vga+adapter&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1)
unfortunately, that lists component to VGA and VGA to component adapters. Make sure you get something that can convert in the right direction. I'm not sure what the difference will be between the $400 models and the $40 models, maybe someone has some experience with some of these.

The problem is that rgb is considered component by some and I don't think that will work...the hvx component probably has a technical name that will make matching a vga to it clear if it's possible.

I haven'yt seen it discussed here and a search didn't help. I was hoping somebody had gone down this path already...

Do you mean YPbPr?
In my search, it looks like the most common inexpensive adapter is the kind made for video game consoles.
