quick dumb question about hvx in general..

is the zoom ring as smooth/free as the dvx?

or is it smooth but STIFF as can be like the vx..

Smooth and free if the servo is dis-engaged.
Smooth and stiff if you 'accidentally' try to move it with the servo engaged.

good point heavy. i'd bet a lot of under-experienced users make that judgment without knowing its just a matter of flipping a switch

lolz thanks, no i wouldn't do that, ive had my dvx for waayyyyyy too long, long enough to step it up a notch.

but the vx zoom ring is gross, compared to the dvx when set free, if you will...

In my hands, the HVX zoom ring is as easy to use as the DVX zoom ring. The zoom ring on the HVX seems a tad "stiffer" but that's probably because I got my DVX with a lot of hours on it and my HVX virtually new.

The HVX ring is really "snappy". It takes a good tweak, but it makes it easier to control... you can snap to any point you want and not miss,with a little practice.
