These are very nicely exposed, but most are pretty soft given what the EX1 is capable of, especially the wide shots.

you think? i thought they look pretty sharp compared to my old hvx/m2 set up. i'll try and keep tweaking my back focus though to see if i can't get it sharper. i turned detail off on the ex1 as well. some of those stills are a bit softer i'd say because of camera movement and trying to pull focus on the small ex1 lcd.

They definitely can be sharper. Look at the second shot (the guy walking along the street) for example, he almost blends into the background due to lack of details on his face body. Same with the shot of the girl pulling the backpack by the fence. There's no edge sharpness that allows them to pop out of the shot, despite the DOF.
Are you shooting wide open? If you are trying stopping the lens down to around f4 and sharpness should greatly improve.

Love it, looks very Filmic, Looks like the same color grading if any from Brick. Very well done, now I want to see the movie!

yes could be sharper but don't change anything now. Keep going everything else is A work. Add sharpness later in the pipe line. Looks good!

How do I get upload privileges? I sharpened one of the screen grabs in photoshop and I can't upload it.

Now that I've just seen that the ex1 can produce filmic images I may verywell consider this as a cam option now for my next short.

The EX-1 looks just as "flimic" as the HVX200 and A1... when the user actually turns the freakin' shutter on.
Tweaking the color in post goes a longer way, as far as it can get you. Any of these cameras can produce a "filmic" image. Just different film stocks. It's only preference if it's your own project. If it's someone elses, then that's a different story (hence why I own a 200A and not an A1 or EX-1).
Wartez -- What lenses are you using? The rehearsal footage looks nice, dude. Lit stuff should look even better.

These look great. I especially like the first shot with the circular lights in the bokeh.

VERY EXCITED! CAN'T Wait!
Looks great to me - I know a couple of people complaining about softness - I'm sure they will hat emy curren tmovie (Although I'm not using ex1 right now)
But I like them. Would love to know your budget and any specs on technical data. I also watched the rehersal - codos on finding good actors. they seem very natural.

can you tell us the pro's and the challenges of using the ex1, where it shined and where you ran into problems? Also what SteadyCam did you end up using? About to go panny or EX1, and I really want to know how the footage is looking, does it have that true 24p feel, or does it still feel video? when can we expect a trailer? are you going to doe a film out? and (if you are) tell us how well the color grading goes through COLOR. Thanks

Dude I just got a HVX200A, waaayyyyyyyyy cleaner than the HVX200. But as far as HVX200A vs EX1... ask yourself:
Can you color correct to get the EX1 to look like HVXish or better? for most people yeah and pretty easy
Can you get the HVX to get EX1 resolution? :-KnockedOut(D
edit: check this EX1 clip I found a while back, it's done straight up, no 35mm adapter btw

GREAT POINT!
I have been very happy with the EX1 (as a former HVX200 owner). I do dislike the rolling shutter. I've never had any problems with it myself, but you can see it in some footage (like the fireworks footage just posted or under some florescent lights).
The stills look great to me (very cinematic). I hope that we will get to see a trailer soon. It looks like you guys have a big cast and a lot of great locations. I hope it all comes together in post. I can't wait to see some moving images.
A feature is a big undertaking at any budget. It looks like you guys are putting a lot into it. Even with a low budget, the stills look like quality work!

Hey Jon~ sort of forgot about this thread, been updating the one in user films that you can find in my sig. the ex1 performed quite well, i ran into a few problems with rolling shutter that i was able to work around but other than that it was really quite a positive experience technically. i wish i could say the same for the letus extreme!!!
i don't know about what others say but i find when in the right hands, the ex1 can be very filmic. not as immediate as say an hvx but with an adapter and some very basic color correction i've found this set up to perform beautifully. i really don't believe i would have been able to shoot the same film with an hvx or other camera on the budget and time constraints that we had. for that, i am very thankful for this set up.
you can view a short i did for lovefest with the same set up before i got the new achromat called winter lilacs to get an idea of the 24p motion.

i'm working on some teaser type videos for happy birthday rita, hopefully i'll have those online in the next week.
thanks,

Hey Wartez,
I really like the look of the film, are you the dp on this project? What have your problems with the LEX been, I am a user of the SGPro, but would one day like to use the extreme, the only thing I cant get my head around is the bokeh from the lex sometimes like the P + S, really ghostly looking. But, on your film you seen to have avoided this kind of bokeh, guess you have been shooting closed down. Thanks for your time.

The promo looks great!
It does not look like video. It looks like film.
The acting and story look solid. I can't wait to see the final film.
The only thing that bothered me was the TITLE font. It looks like video on top of film (if that makes any sense).
The end shot is very funny (nice touch).
