Will a small LCD monitor with composite/RCA input 16:9 be sufficient for focusing/framing with the HVX200?
And will that feed work through all SD/HD frame rates?

Just tested it via composite in 24pN.
And no issues.

There's no way you can use that monitor for focusing, since the composite output is SD only.
We use a couple of SD 16:9 monitors on set for the director and sound dept, but a HD monitor is necessary for a focus puller.

For framing, it works fine, and I wondering if a combination of the focus assist and the little monitor might be a good mix.
Or we can hope for a higher quality LCD

Composite is useless for focusing HD. Composite, by its very nature, is limited to showing about 330 lines of resolution.

I don't think you can get focus assist to display on an external monitor, either. :( That's something that would be a cool firmware update.

You're right about the focus assistance not displaying on an external.
But it does on the LCD.
Again, my preference is for a better quality LCD, ala the Z1U or similar.
After all, this is HD and that LCD ain't very good.
We don't need it often, but the occasional use doesn't justify another $2K to get better focus.
