how do you trash P2 files on a Mac

I've got a bunch of duplicate P2 media that I need to trash. It's all locked.
Is there a way to over ride the lock on it? My hard drive is FULL.
It's like 20GB

I had been trying "secure empty trash" from the pull down menu (which I thought was the same thing)... apparently it's not.
