Has anyone here had compatibility issues with their PCMCIA --> PCI adapter? I tried installing one on my desktop PC last night and my system would not boot (blank monitor). I did some research online and other people have encountered similar problems with my motherboard (Abit IP35 pro).
I understand that PCMCIA to firewire or USB adapters are incompatible with P2 cards. Is there ANY other way to get my P2 to work with my desktop PC? I really don't want to have to transfer from P2 to laptop and then laptop to PC every time I shoot 720pN.

Which one with what system and hardware?
Syba adapter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124021
My system:
q6600 (core 2 quad), abit IP35 pro mobo, 3.5 Gb RAM, 3 500 Gb SATA hard drives (not in RAID), windows XP Professional
I just got off the phone with Abit tech support and they said it might have something to do with my graphics card, since I'm not seeing anything on my monitor.

I'd put it in the slot furthest from the video card. Sometimes that clears up DMA issues.
So you're saying the computer doesn't even POST? It's probably bad hardware.
My fave computer hardware troubleshooting forum is www.virtualdr.com (http://www.virtualdr.com)

Correct--my computer doesn't even post. It gets hung up on code 25. I'm basically having the same problem this guy had: http://forum.uabit.com/showthread.php?t=136637 I contacted this dude and he said he ended up using a different mother board, which won't work for me because I can't return this one (damn rebates).
I tried putting the adapter in the PCI slot farthest from the graphics card, but no dice. I also updated my BIOS and tried to start up with a different graphics card. That didn't work. I installed the card on my old computer and it boots up just fine. I'll check out virtual dr, Prof.
So, since it looks like this adapter just won't work with this mobo, I have a new question: Is there another adapter could use? I seem to recall some thread in which Barry mentioned being able to connect a PCMICA-to-express card adapter into an express card-to-PCI adapter in order to get P2 to work on a desktop computer. But that was for a mac.

Are you overclocking or running the system out of spec in any way?
What does code 25 correspond to in the manual?
What motherboard model?

The board is an Abit IP35 Pro. Yes, I'm overclocking the PC. Code 25 means :
"Early PCI Initialization:
- Enumerate PCI bus number
- Assign memory and I/O resource
- Search for valide VGA device and VGA BIOS, and put it into C000:0"

I would stop overclocking first. Overclocking usually runs the PCI bus out of spec, and that's the most likely culprit.
What bus is your video card using?

Huh. Interesting theory. I'll give it a shot.
I'm using a PCI-express x16 for my 7300 GS graphics card.
I have an M-audio card running on one of my PCI slots. Does the fact that this card works debunk the overclock theory?

No, each PCI card is made by a different manufacturer in a different place to slightly different tolerances, so they all perform a little differently.

I cleared my CMOS memory and tried the PCMCIA card with two different video cards--still no luck. I'm going to return this card to newegg.
Is there any reason to believe an expresscard to PCI-express adapter will fare any better on my mobo? I could use that plus a PCMCIA adapter to expresscard to plug my P2 cards into. I know that there's only one way to find out, but I don't want to keep purchasing and returning incompatible cards.
The tech people at Abit couldn't recommend a PCMCIA adapter that they knew would work on the board.

Does any out there dump P2 files to their desktop directly, or does everyone dump to their laptop first?
