Let me begin by saying I'm new to the P2 format.
We shot a crucial interview this morning on a firestore. There are 3 clips all about 13 minutes long. Two of the clips imported fine but the 3rd doesn't seem to want to work.

This is seriously bad.

what I did: I organized the P2 footage first, went to import P2 on Final Cut 5.1.4 and all three clips came up. I put them all in the Queue and left the room. 2 worked and the 3rd had an exclamation in the status. I've tried that clip by itself about 5 times now and it starts to transfer and then stops about 1/4th of the way - same place each time. If you look at the clip on the monitor it's all there and all appears fine. You can watch it all the way through direct from the firestore and there doesn't appear to be any glitches or anything. I need to return this firestore to a friend and clear it out - I HAVE to find out how to get this chunk first. I will be eternally grateful for any help.

UPDATE

I've just been trying it over and over - trying the usual obvious quick-fix-its, ie. restarting Final Cut, the computer, etc.

On the last attempt, the transfer bar got almost to the end, I was sure it was going to work and then stopped suddenly again, says "idle" and red exclamation came back up.

I don't have experience with recording footage to a Firestore since I shoot everything to P2 cards. The only problem I had with a P2 file while loading into an edit system was repaired by P2 Log Pro http://www.imagineproducts.com/P2log.htm

They have a free download to repair up to four clips. I don't know if this will help you but its my best suggestion. Good luck retrieving your footage.

I had this exact same problem a couple weeks ago. I had to use a different program to import the P2 file. I used the free demo of P2 Log Pro for Macintosh, and it worked fine. There was some digital corruption at the beginning of the clip that I think was causing FCP to dislike the clip.

The demo of P2 Log Pro will only open the first clip on a P2 card, so you might need to copy the contents of the clip you want to open into a new folder structured to look like a P2 card. If it's a spanned clip, you might have to do that for each clip that is part of the spanned file.
