I got my HVX early last December. Today, I was shooting and when I went to use the focus ring, I noticed that it seemed to "grind" almost like sand or something was in it. I cant remember ever noticing it, but now that I have noticed it, I can't not. I live up in the mountains, hundreds of miles away from any professional video store, and I am not sure what to do. I don't know if something is wrong, I dont want to cause any damage to my camera by using it. Is there some way I can take the focus ring off and clean out that part? I really need some help, thanks.

Sounds like a bit of sand. Did you shoot the beach wedding??

I guess you can just keep using it until it presents a problem or seek professional help...

no, no beach. I have used it only a total of like 24 hours, and never anywhere where sand and stuff was blowing around. Is this covered under warranty? Again, can I clean it out? I would prefer not to wait until it gets to be a huge problem.

Stop using it! The sand/grit damages the plastic and even after it is fixed it will feel rough. We can clean it out and replace the lubricant with something that is more viscous and you shouldn't notice the difference.

Let me know if you need to take a look at it for you.

i only ever shoot at the beach so i wasnt suprised to one day feel it grinding now and then. it got so bad it started to affect my the focus and the camera all together!!! it sounded like an old computer trying to start up.

many people on here believed i would have to get my whole lens assembly replaced. i was so upset. in the end i sent it to a panasonic repair centre 400km's away and he opened it up, cleaned it out and re lubricated. it works better than ever, no more problems. My warranty was actually for the US so he couldnt cover it for me but in the end he only charged me $130AUD.

i now always put a T-shirt over my camera when im filming haha.
If i was you i would definetaly get it checked out as soon as possible.....
