Can the Panasonic DVX 100B output to 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 ?

(I think it's only the HVX but wanted to doubllecheck..

If so, what settings would I need to put it on?

The HVX200 is the only camera under $14,000 that records in 4:2:2.

The DVX100B records 4:1:1.

You could get a modified "Andromeda" DVX that can output 4:4:4, but those are few and far between, quite rare, and the workflow is far more complex.

And rather expensive.

What's the difference between 4:1:1 and 4:2:2?

S-video is not a high-quality video transfer system. It's better than composite, but the color is all blended together in one blob rather than being separated out like component. So no, you're not going to get high-res 4:2:2 out of the s-video output. You'll get about 400 lines of resolution (vs. 540 from the firewire) and it's color-under color, so it's not discrete like component (which is what the DVX outputs through firewire, is component video).

The color might look smoother in that it won't be as stair-steppy as 4:1:1, but overall the whole image will be softer.

I think you can do it(record in losless) with the DVRack software on you laptop connected by 1394 to your cam - its so useful for croma-keying or other compozing.
So you can remove DV-artefacting by the MagicBulletSuite2.1 or 2.0, its a pluginpack for AdobeAE. Good luck!

No; DV Rack (now OnLocation) records in DV, because that's what comes over 1394.

i dont think so not with firewire. you must be thinking of the andromeda dvx which is much more expensive and complex

May be, i dont know.

I create high-speed network at my home with the 1394 fireware - that is 100%
