Just wondering the best way to shoot timelapse of a CAT machine being assembled with either my HPX500 or HVX200 locked off. Want to shoot 720p 24N. Basically want to leave the camera at the site plugged in for a week. I have 16G P2 cards, which gives me 80 minutes record time in the camera without changing. I figure I can hotswap if I need to... anyone done this before?

make sure you lock it down real good, as swapping cards in the hvx can cause the dreaded "bump".
but thats also 80 minutes at 24 fps, if you shoot using barry's frame rate hack over undercranked at 2 fps you'll have a ton more of record time(too lazy to do the math, but its a looooot).

I'm fairly new to the HVX, but wouldn't interval recording be the better option for something this long?

1) a series of recordings might make more sense, unless people are literally working around the clock for a week.
2) do the math on your target number of frames. If you want a 10-second long run at 24 fps, you want 240 frames, over 7 days that is about 35 frames a day, which you'll have to get with interval recording. 2 fps is only 1/12 speed, taking 24 hours down to two hours.
3) consider using a different camera. Most nice SLRs can take a still at a set interval. You'll get better image quality and more precise control.

I second the Dslr route. You don't need a top of the line DSLR get a descent Nikon or Canon. I use a Canon 20D with a 17-55 lens. With Canon you have to buy a remote interverlometer, I believe Nikon's have it built in. You can leave a >1,000 camera there rather than <6,000 camera plus have all that extra resolution play with in post for pans and zooms.
