I just got some sample HVX200 footage (raw MXF) and I managed to import it into AFX CS3 without problem. The only issue I have is that I can't playback the footage in realtime even though I'm not doing anything to it at all.

The PC I'm running on is pretty darn fast.

Intel Core 2 Quad 3ghz
4GB ram
1.5TB Raid5

Obviously I can render out a preview in RAM and it will playback in realtime but being my first time handling HVX footage, I just assumed that it would be able to playback in realtime on a machine like mine.

In case you wanted to ask, I'm not running anything else for sure and the OS/app install is very fresh.

That bad news is that AE is not real time. You can get a little better/faster playback if you have a beefy video card, but not much. Your best bet would be to get Nucleo Pro from Gridiron, which basically renders away in the background to give you a more instant realtime preview. They call this spec preview. They have a trial version for download so you can see for yourself if it makes any difference.

All the best,

AE is not the real-time playback type of software (without caching to RAM first).

Premiere will give you realtime playback on a machine like that with a smile.
