I'm interested in renting out my camera gear and was wondering where to get insurance. Anyone know? I'm also looking for insurance for general theft. I called my auto insurance agent and they don't do that type of insurance.
Oh I forgot... I'm in Los Angeles, CA

I use state farm. It covers: fire, theft, vandalism, water, damage, and mysterious loss. It's about $10 a grand for a years worth of coverage. It is filed as a personal articles policy.

You might not be covered *legally* in the event of a loss unless you have a commercial lines policy or a rider that covers your personal items when used off of the associated property (e.g., your house or rental).
If you incur a loss anywhere other than the premises covered on the policy, you would, effectively, be committing insurance fraud if you file a claim as if the loss / damage occurred at the address indicated in the policy.

yes. you'd have to get renters insurance. Best thing to do.. is contact a place that does film insurance.. get all of the terms and paperwork.. and specifics.. and then find a 3rd party insurance that does the same thing.. but doesn't pay the "film" priced premium. You can get the same thing but if you go with the big film/video companies you pay a handlers fee. they all use the same ones, but they charge for the customer service and familiarity with film people.
