View Full Version : Thinking of going HVX, what's the value of my DVX Kit?

Hey everyone,

There are usually a dozen or so of these threads that pop up every other day, but I need some of my own answers.

I'm looking into selling my DVX100B Kit for an upgrade to an HVX200A

The camera has 170 hours clocked in and is in decent shape, a couple of small scuff marks on the body but is still in the basic condition I bought it in back in December of 2006. Everything would be as is: battery, AC Adapter and charger, Manual, Barry's DVX Bot Camp Book and DVD.

I also have a Chrosziel 4X4 Sunshade with 15mm rails, base plate, French Flag, and 72mm to 85mm adapter ring, and I also have a 72mm Chrosziel Focus Gear Ring for a Follow Focus System.

I got a quote from B&H Photo Video, which puts my kit at $2,100. Is that too low for what my kit's reselling price?

Money is not the issue in regards to purchasing the HVX, but if I do sell my DVX I want to make sure I get my money's worth.

Thanks!

I can't speak for the value of your Chroziel gear, but DVX's in the marketplace on this site seem to be going for around $1800.

Have you seen this yet?

May want to hold off for that if you can.

For the record I just bought a DVX100B w 150 hours in great condition for $1900. It also came with 3 5400 batteries.

Well, I feel that I do need something that is still tape based, namely for some clients who want master copies for archival purposes, so thats why I am leaning more to the HVX as opposed to a camera that is exclusively P2 or Solid State Card or whatever.

davide: I still have yet to find a quote for the Chrosziel gear, simply because its an SD matte system and I think it has been discontinued, but don't quote me on that.

Wait till the HPX170 and HVX200A come out, then the HVX200 should drop a bit in price.

The 200a is already out. Spec-comm had some in stock last week.

~$1800 sounds about right for your DVX.

Practically all clients watch stretched 4:3 sd on their 1080p tvs anyway, so I'm not worried.

Yeah the quote on my Chrosziel gear at B&H is at $600, so all together if I sell to B&H it will be between $2,000 to $2,200. Not bad I guess.

William_Robinette: Yeah, I was holding out until NAB for confirmation of the 200A, so now that its out... it will be mine. I feel the HVX is a great intermediate, still tape based but with P2 capabilties.

Perhaps later on, when I feel it will be a necessity to record on memory card or flash drive based, I'll get an HPX or a Sony EX1 (which I use at work) but for now I am very happy with working with my own HVX.
