I have HP with 4GB Ram, 320GB Hard Drive Laptop. Shooting on Hvx200a w/P2 Card editing on Vegas Pro 8. I will be shooting HD 1080 24pa (i think I got the numbers right?)

The question is; what external hard drive would be good to work with? here are two different setup/types -

1. Mini Portable Hard Drive 250GB USB 2.0 (small in size, easy to carry).

Brand One; Maxtor One Touch 4 mini
Band Two; Free Agent Go (Seagate)
(both have 5400 RPM) It plugs into your laptop for power.

2. Desktop External Hard Drive 500 GB

Brand One; Maxtor One Touch Plus has both USB 2.0 and Firewire 400
Brand Two; Free Agent (Seagate) just has USB 2.0

I'm not sure which one is a better one to get?

Was thinking of getting the Mini for field work and the dest-top for when I'm at the hotel rough editing.

any thoughts would be great.

I would definitely go with the desktop externals if they are staying in roughly the same place. The faster drive speeds and larger capacity are all much better for editing space hungry DVCproHD footage.

If you are really "out in the field" nothing beats the dependability of the pocketdrives. I have one by WD and it's fast enough to edit DV/XDcamHD (duno about DVCproHD) and I can drop that thing all over the place and it still runs fine.

Hi,

I would prefer to go by Desktop externals. Of course, everyone would do. The main reason is obviously the hard disk capacity. Definitely, u would not be out of the field most of the time. So u can go by this.
