I'm not sure about the cough but mine is curse free, I don't think my current story needs any.

I usually don't write any in just in case it goes to TV like RFeyeD and RED MEAT did but this time I let the FUKC out of the cage. I think in one line I have 8 in a row.

When I write for myself I usually leave out curse words unless they are absolutly necessary. But when I write for someone else, I will add whatever they want. MIne has none this TIME around.

I have them in to show the roughness of one of the characters and I have another section in because I think the conversation is funny. I over heard part of it in the park the other day and it made me laugh so I wrote in a snippet.

That's pretty much what I do, my first drafts are generally curse, I generally only have villains and thugs curse.
However it always depends on the character.

Right. For example, in my ScriptFest entry, there are a few words because I needed them to represent the mental state of mind of my character.

I think my timefest entry only has like ten spoken words in the whole thing anyway. But one of those is a "curse word."
This is a silly thread though. What are we in grade school? Curse words?
Don't you f*cking people watch HBO?

I don't write much cursing, however improv with actors always leads to an addition of it.

I have 20-30 min of a short that will be developed into a feature... so far I must have like with 40-60 curse words :D
Later on it tones down, one of the characters matures a bit, also the character who curses the most loses his side-kick so he should tone his abuse down with his new roommate, but he does continue to be a complete looser and curse quite a bit.

there was one discussion last fest where someone said they would not vote for a movie if it had a cuss word in it.

Exactly
hahah... so I guess they secretly just might be into animals or family members? maybe that it a bit much, of course.... but no curse words at all? That is just plain fake... of course you can make an excellent movie without ant profanity, but has anyone ever lived their whole life in this world without hearing a single curse word? people curse, it happens... so if you make a movie about people it very well may need a bit of cussing to make it accurate. My story for example wouldn't be possible without lots and lots of cursing... one of my characters is exactly the kind of guy that say fuck every ten words... I am not saying you have to like the guy or want to hang out with him... on the contrary, cursing is one of the ways I am trying to make everyone hate the guy... and the more you hate him the better for the story
SO IT COMES DOWN TO THIS:
Do your characters curse..... and if so, why... it there is a good reason then BINGO! there is no limit to how many so long as they have a purpose in the story
