View Full Version : Capturing HDV?

I know the HVX can't shoot HDV or anything dumb like that. But, I was wondering if you could take a tape with HDV footage on it, and use the HVX as a capture deck? I would doubt it would be possible, since the HVX doesn't have the MPEG2 hardware in it and whatnot. But what the hell do I know?

And yes, I know it's best to buy a capture cam anyways, but money's short.

Thanks for any answers,
Ben Tubb

Using a $6K cam as a capture deck for HDV?

Hmmm.

An el cheapo $300 cam might be a better idea.

As to your question, I don't know, but the idea of mixing different DV tapes with different emulsions isn't a good choice for me.

And it wont work. If you shoot HDV you have to cap with an HDV deck.

Okay, cool, thanks. Hey, trust me, I would never use my HVX as a capture deck for HDV. My friend is considering buying an HVX, and wanted to know if he'd be able to capture his old HDV footage from his last camera. I told him he wouldn't be able to, but then I wanted to know just out of curiosity if I was right or not.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Also be aware that there are different HDV flavors, and tapes from a Canon or JVC won't necessarily work in a Sony.
