Hey Guys I want to get a sped up shot of the sun rising over the location I am shooting, would shooting this in 12fps get the desired effect of the sun rising fast if I just do a lock off for an hour or so? I would think that this would take less space on a card because its fewer frames- is this true at all or just wishful thinking?

Why not use the interval shot? I find that a frame per 2 seconds works well.

sounds good, how do you do this if you dont mind me asking- I'm at work right now and don't have my manual with me.
Thanks so much

There are a lot of settings you have to set just right in order for it to work.
First, you must be in VIDEO CAM mode for operation type in your scene file.
Second, you must be in a 30P or 60i/P recording format.
Once you do that, then the REC FUNCTION menu item will turn white, and you can change it. Change from NORMAL to INTERVAL.
Then the INTERVAL TIME menu will turn white, and you can change it anywhere from one frame every 2F to 10min.

then you just calculate how long you need to record. If you want the sun to rise in ten seconds, thats 10 x 30 frames/second (for example)=300 frames. So if you had set to record one frame every 5 secs, you would have to record for 1500 seconds (25 minutes), and start just before published sunrise in your area.

I've shot hundreds of timelapses and have found 1 frame per second to be my most used setting for sunsets and clouds. If the clip moves too slowly I just speed it up a bit. 1 frame every 5 seconds can be jerky sometimes and there is no going back. Examples:

Look up Barry's frame rate hack. It shoots 2fps at 720pn. Lots of smear and blur from horizontal moving objects. Works great.

can you do interval recording in SD in the HVX or just when shooting in HD?

HD only, I believe.
