SCRIPT FEEDBACK GUIDELINES

Writing is hard. It’s a very personal and humbling thing to do. It’s an activity that you do alone and because of it we take our work and criticism of it very personally.

That said, the only way we can get better is with honest feedback. So, a few guidelines to help things proceed smoothly:

1. Be honest but use tact when giving people feedback. Don't start your feedback out with "Your script sucks."

2. Be specific. Let people know what you like, and let them know what didn’t work for you. It doesn’t help someone to simply say you don’t like something, but it does help them when you’re specific and say “I’m not sure what your main character wanted in X scene.” Or, “I didn’t understand your character because I didn’t know enough about him.” Or, “I didn’t understand your story logic, for X/Y/Z reasons.”

If you’re not comfortable giving public feedback, you can send your feedback to me and I’ll post it anonymously in the thread.

I am hoping that was sarcastic. See, this is like a big family here. Everyone is nice and friendly, but most of all, we are careful with our critique.

I had a pro once tell me that the first ten pages of my first script gave him, and I quote..."a f*ckin' headache."

That was the last line of a full paragraph of grabassery that was his review. I was humbled. lol.

Not a good review technique.

Kind of sounds like my reviews for Ned's Three N's...LOL of course I am gonna keep writing and honing my skills until I realize my full potential. Or realize I don't have any at all either way this is the best place for either...

The script I submitted to the WesternFest was the first EVER script I have written.
I am a 59yearold housewife from Scotland who enjoys writing short stories as a hobby.
The feedback I have recieved fom Forum members has not only been specific and helpful, it has been so uplifting.
Not once have I felt put down or demoralised by 'tech' experts / other forum members. Advice is given / recieved in good spirit.
I've had a wonderful time... roll on next ScriptFest!
