when i try to mount the hvx onto the mac so i can check out or copy the footage across, for some reason it wont work using the fire wire cable, gives the error 1394 device disconnect (I have 1394device selected under pc mode)

when I change the pc mode too usb device and try the usb cable. it seems to work and i can copy footage across.

from my understanding, fire wire should be the way to go on the mac and usb on pc, is this true, am i doing something wrong?

thanks for any help

You have to install the driver for P2 and the camera before you can attach it. You then make sure your camera is off, attach both ends of the cable to the mac and the camera turn the camera on, then put the camera in playback mode by pressing the rear selector button once, then once it is in playback mode, press and hold the button for 2 seconds, it will go into firewire transfer mode. You are supposed to be using the firewire for mac and the usb for PCs.. but you do have to load the drivers for the camera and p2. Both can be downloaded from the panasonic website

I had this same problem. Try a different firewire port. I couldn't get it to work on the front port of my Mac Pro. It does work on the back of my main Apple display. As suggested make sure you have the proper drivers.
