Hi,

Just wondered if a DIY grad filter would produce anywhere near half acceptable results. My plan was to print the gradient out on clear acitate film with a good laser printer and high resolution. I could then cut it out and trap it between two 4x4 peices of thin glass and then laod it into the mattebox as normal.

You recon this would work?

Other than an effects shot, I think the optics would suck so bad that it would make it unusable.

I've thought about using acetone to partially take off the silver backing on a mirror. At least the glass would be better optically than the film.

If you are just trying to save money, I'd just get a cavision or cokin z-pro.

Cavision sells resin ND grads for like $40, they arent very good but they work (and probably a lot better than a DIY solution)

if you are using a small enough lens on your camera you could just get cokin P filters dirt cheap. They at 4x3.5 or something.

You can get a knock off grad for 10 bucks and it will look better then your DIY.
