Hi,
I'm looking at getting an HVX200 and reading on here, it seems I will need the following:-
1. HVX 200
2. P2 card - At least 16GB
3. Laptop to transfer footage to during shoot
3. Adobe CS3 Premiere
Is this all I need?
Is this the most cost effective solution? I've read about Firestore but it seems people are not too happy with it?
Do I need any specialist equipment to transfer to the laptop?
Finally, how long does it take to transfer from 16GB P2 card to the laptop?
Thanks

Tripod, lighting, sound?
The question become is this "all you need for what?"

Thanks.
I already have a pretty powerful PC (XP) and a laptop. I have a DX100a at the moment plus lighting, sound etc.
What I meant was what do I need to upgrade to the HVX200, sorry I should have made that clear.
Not sure what you mean by card slot?

just makes sure you laptop has a PCMCIA type II slot. Some of the newer ones are coming with an express card slot only. Make sure to update cs3 when you get it to its latest version. I think MXF support showed up in 3.1. Might want to look at some sort of system for archiving your p2 cards as well. I go with two external hard drives for redundancy. Other have gone to dvd or lto tape. Having no backup is the only thing I miss about tape.

the 200 and the 200a both come with a 16gig card. i just picked up my 200a from spec-comm (www.spec-comm.com). i can't say enough good things about them either. they'll hook you up. anyway, you'll have a card straight out of the gate.
it took me 15 minutes-ish to transfer about 12 gigs to my macbookpro. that was straight from the camera. since i already have the laptop, i'm just going to by a duel adapter (pcmcia adapter) and a second p2 card.

Slimchrisp - What does a PCMCIA Adapter cost? I'm picking up an HP (4GB Ram, 320GB hard drive, Core 2 Duo Processor T5550 Laptop - Model DV9825NR) tomorrow and I'm not sure it has one built into it.

Thanks guys, seems the last thing on the last should be the PCMII slot.
Slimchrisp, how I wish! I'm in the UK, we don't get P2 cards free with the camera. Ridiculous!

hey nz. i'm a mac guy with a macbookpro, so i'm going to need to pick it up. since you're going the windows route, i believe you'll have a pcmcia slot already. i think the dual adapter is $119, so instant savings right there. :)
just double check to make sure, but i believe that's standard on windows laptops.

booooo. that totally sucks. this may be a long shot, but im andrew from spec comm. his user name is spec_comm. he may be able to get you a pal version. of course, it may be the pal version that just doesn't come with the card. it's worth a shot though.

Only cameras intended for sale in the US will come with a free P2 card through Panasonic USA's promotion, that means you won't get one with a PAL camera. Also, I don't believe Spec-Comm will sell PAL models anyway.

Thanks slim, will definitley give it a shot.
Sigh!. If only we still had Tony Blair to cosy up with the US, we might get free P2 cards as well. :cheesy:
It's so unfair.
Thanks

The bonus with CS3 is onLocation. Get a firewire cable to use with the camera. It's a wonderful cheap set of scopes.
You're better off with two smaller p2 cards than one big one, so you don't have to sit around waiting for files to transfer.
