Two questions:

Is it possible to record to miniDV (SD of course) while also recording to either a Citidisk or Firestore HD? I think I know the answer already but thought maybe someone has found a hack around this...

Also, any advice from anyone about whether to get the FS-100 or the Citidisk? I read some posts here and it sounds like they both have the drawbacks but which one are people using? I would be shooting 1080 24p and editing in FCP. I looked at the Firestore web site and it doesn't make any mention of the FS-100 being able to record 1080 24p??

I was leaning towards the citidisk simply for the $ factor. Thanks in advance!!!

Yes, you can record to tape and an external recording device because the DV port still outputs what the camera is recording. In fact, it will output what the imager sees at all times, even if you aren't recording to tape at that moment so you can record exclusively to the external device without putting a tape in the camera.

There aren't very many user reports about the Citidisk HD, and even fewer positive ones. If you are going with a harddrive-based recording solution, I would definitely go with the FS-100.

The FS-100 can record all non-native (PN) formats of the HVX, and it can emulate PN mode by dropping the duplicate frames (the camera must still be set to a non-native mode or the DV port will be silent).

the firestore can record 1080 @ 24p. As said before it records all non native formats incl SD.

BUT: if you're recording to tape, the only thing coming out the firewire port will be standard-def DV. You can't record HD on the FireStore and DV on the tape at the same time.
