Well, how about Vista? Should I steer clear and get a new laptop with Windows XP? Is there a cheap laptop that can handle Photoshop? I'm still using CS2. My Sony I'm using now is 3 years old, dead battery and my plug is really loose. It's not Duo core and I'm thinking just about anything new would be better that this old thing?

I'd try to avoid Vista, but it'd be hard to find a laptop without Vista now. You'd likely have to install XP afterwards. What's your price range and are you only using it for Photoshop? What do you plan on using it for? Plenty of RAM is always a good idea and duo core is almost a must nowadays to be worth it.

Good luck with your new purchase,

Kegan

The last laptop, Sony, was $2,000 with a video card but I don't plan on paying that. I read that Dell will special order with XP installed? Photoshop, email and my accounting program is all I'll use the laptop for. I hate studying up on this stuff.

most pc labtops these days are all built the same, either using an intel or amd chipset. So saying that some brands are going to be a "little" better then the rest AND since its not at all customizable like tower pc's (labtops all have everything built on their motherboards).

Go to a place like futureshop or bestbuy and get the one with the most ram for the buck, so 4 gb ddr ram. REASON I say futureshop or bestbuy is their warrenties. A mom and pop shop can't beat their prices and offer the replacment computer. Tower pc's its a different story. Replace your cd drive for a tower its $40, labtop $300.

vista runs great on my labtop just incase you were wondering, and you can always ask them to put xp on it instead. you dont need to bother with xp, vista will work good trust me. If its the secruity warnings that bother you about vista you can disable them, just dont look at porn :P.

Ended up buying an Acer from Costco for $600 and it is way faster than my $2,000 Sony from 3 years ago. The battery last 3 hours and the old Sony lasted about 1 1/2 hours.
Very happy with Vista too.

Hate to ask...but WHY????
The changes from XP to Vista make it a bit difficult finding files. Not that bad but still...when I put my cups in my cupboard, I know where they are in the dark :) Changes need to be smooth.
