View Full Version : Help me with my new logo.
New company, new site, need the ned logo. You all were able to help out John so much, I thought I might kick my new logo out to ya. It's called Original Cine (playing off of original sin, though I'm not sure that people will get it.) Here's the first concept that I've actually tried out.
http://img138.exs.cx/img138/539/originalcine6so.jpg
I was thinking of perhaps making the reel smaller and moving it up, then having film coming out the bottom to counter the stem.
It doesn't have to be an apple with a reel, I just want some symbol from original sin combined with a symbol of filmmaking.
Thoughts? Kai? ;)

This may SO not be what you would want, but if you could incorporate the strip of film on the reel side becoming a snake on the apple side, it might be cool. Just an idea to further play on the Original Sin/Cine.

How about the reel being the apple, and the stem a strip of film. *Instead of it being split in half, just shape the reel like an apple, with the reel inserts. *
Although it may get to close to apple logo. *Never mind.
Prarie, that's a good idea, if it were done correctly I think it could stay out of Apple teritory.
thartley, I had previously entertained the idea of just a reel with the film coming off and turning into a snake, but it started to get really complicated and I couldn't fathom how to make it. :P

WHat about:
1 Frame of Film (35mm of course)
An Apple split in half (just showing half of an Apple and not two halves) in the frame
A serpent wrapping around it
BTW wasnt it a persimmon and not an apple?
THen color correct and scrape it like M KNIGHTS logo
I'm pretty sure that it was an apple, but I'll double check on that.
I'm thinking about all the talk of snakes, and I'm just wondering if that's complcating things. I want something that's simple, and scalable (ie, I could put it on a business card.)
I really like that idea John, maybe I could incorporate it into the site.

TC, i'd like to see your idea about making the reel smaller and having film to offset the stem. I think that might look cool.
Here's a quickie idea...

..i can help you out with that to save you time. *;) * It without a doubt was not an apple or any other fruit that we know of for that matter.. *but anyway the "tree of knowledge of good and evil" was the only one of its kind ever in existence, and it had fruit unlike any other tree. * when they were kicked out of the garden it was the last anyone saw of the tree, or the garden itself. *the whole apple thing is really just a speculatory symbolism which materialised over time based off of *the normal appearance of the fruit (bright red) and a lack of knowledge or understanding of what is actually written in the bible.
.. oh yeah.. i dig the logo KAI.. the reel might be a littl big though. ;)
Niel- Thank you very much for informing me. I tried to research it online, but everything I found said it was an apple.
Kai- HOLY HOLY HOLY CRAP. I love that so much, thank you. My only question is: With that much detail on the reel, will it be able to be scaled very well?
That leaf is so cool.

I tried to research it online, but everything I found said it was an apple.
..its those darned desperate houswives! *:P
no prob. if your interested read on.. * *
..there were actually two trees unlike any others -the tree of the knowledge of goodand evil, and the tree of life. *the bible isnt clear as to what sort of fruit was on these trees, but its quite obvious that they were one of a kind, and had fruit unlike others. genesis 2+3 covers the fall of man and the trees if you wanted to do some easy research directly from the horses mouth rather than from the powers of the *infallable internet. *;) i think that youll find that theres alot of misinformation out there when it comes to the bible in particular and what it actually says. * too much hollywood and free speculation.. not enough actually reading or knowing what it says. ..unfortunate really. *anyhow i like you idea for a logo.. im sure its going to rock when its done. and if youwant people to universally understand the concept,, youll probably hgave to go with an apple. even those who know its not right know what it has come to stand for. *;)

Kai- HOLY HOLY HOLY CRAP. I love that so much. . .
As do I.
I do think if the reel were a bit smaller and...um...apple-shaped...it would still be recognizable as a film reel.
In any case, I would also put a woman's shapely arm reaching up to pluck it.
But this is coming from someone who couldn't even get his Spirograph to turn out anything decent, so...

Weird. Three feet in front of me on the dresser is a Spirograph. In the last 25 or so of my 31 years, I have not had a Spirograph, nor read the word Spirograph. Now, during THIS thread, both events have occured. I believe it to be a sign from...
But what does it mean? Does it mean I need a logo? Does it mean I need to eat more apples, or a buy a Mac even? Perhaps I should should go to Mother Abigails to prepare for the fight against Randall Flagg? I must now meditate on this.

I like the concept Kai created, but I really like the feel of TC's original image. I think it is the half-and-half, black on white, white on black that I like - if you could just incorporate the two somehow... or something.
Just my $0.02 9/10

I'd agree with that. As much as I like Kai's suggestion, it looks like a Christmas ornament to me.

You fixed on black and white?
No, but I'd like to keep the colors as simple as possible. It'd save me some $$ on printing fees.

Let's say you want to make t-shirts someday..
2-colors=money
4-colors=more money
or stuff you give away ( freebies...what is that word?)
letterhead--
definitely stick to one or two colors at the most.
biz cards..doesn't matter too much.
just things I've encountered

Kai, your design kicks so much ass, but it is kinda busy to put just anywhere. TC, while you are still finalizing what you want, Pooh was right on adding at least one color(along w/black and white). You can never go wrong with say, black, white, and red--although I use those colors along w/a million other businesses, so if you want to be different, take green(Matrix color scheme).
Oh, and make sure once you have your logo done, save the vectors and convert it to 3 versions: 1)2-D flat(illustrator), 2)2-D that looks 3-D(photoshop), and 3)a true 3-D version(pick a 3D program). You will know which version to apply to whatever medium comes up(i.e.: 2-D flat for business cards, 2-D lookin 3-D for flyers or ads, and 3-D for your OTC in your movies)
Great suggestions sean.
Thanks!

This is intense guys, thanks for the updates! SPIDER, I love what you've been doing, I especially like the one above on the left. The branches as reels is insanely brilliant.
Capt- That's very cool. I like the way you extruded it, very sharp. And I love the surface texture.

I'm leaning toward Kai's logo, and Captain sealed the deal with his motion graphic treatment. It just looked very pro, like I'd just popped in a dvd. Blue's stuff is cool to look at, but a little too detailed for a company identity. Kai's is simple, yet effective. It could even stand to have the reel simplified even further. I like that the apple/reel is stemming from a barren branch. (very dark undertones). Let us know what you end up going with.

Nice contributions everyone! (I love this place)
I like this one; what about just one apple (as on the left)? I also like POOH's idea; that could go somewhere. TC, I think the FILMSTRIP should be left out and you should focus on the ORIGINAL CINE concept of the lady, snake and apple.
IMHO

I think my logo should say BLUESPIDER. ;)
Very good work everyone. I am still rolling everything around in my head.
