Hello. i would like somehelp very badly. I am shooting my project in film cam mode 720p/24p .But after recording in the clip properties the frame rate shows as 59.94fps. I set the recording at 24fps. Even when I shoot at other frame rates..like 22 it still shows 59.94fps in the clip properties and also in FCP browser ( after importing). I want to shoot in 24 fps and sometimes at 22 and 30. How do I solve this problem? I posted this earlier but I couldn't get any help.

You should be okay, unless you shoot in 24pn, your video will be embeded in a 29.97 frame per sec (59.94 fields per sec) video stream, and this is normal.
What you need to do is set your NLE project setting to 23.98 fps (or 22 fps for doing 22 fps) and let the software remove the extra frames/fields for you. Make a note that you will most likely want to shoot in 24pa mode rather than 24p because 24pa will allow your NLE to remove the extra fields and assemble your footage into whole frames without having split frames.

I agree with John. As long as before you ingest you set the codec in your video settings to match the settings of the footage, FCP should handle it okay.

Thanks John and Nexis for the advice. First I am not sure if I can shoot in 24pa with my HVX 200. Currently I am shooting in 720p24p. Secondly, in the sequence settings I can't find a compressor HDV 24, I instead have HDV 30 and not even DVC pro HD 24. My sequence is set to compressor DVCProHD720p60. This is confusing! Does not having that particular compression setting matter? Will using the frame rate convertor to my clips in the browser solve the problem? I want my final product in 24fps.

is this true for shooting in 24pn?
was i actually shooting 60 fps?
because as i mentioned in a thread i started today,
i've been trying to do slow motion using 24pn
footage, and its all jerky.
can i go back and re-capture my p2 footage
only in 60p(n), (which i shot as mentioned in 24pn?)
or am i stuck with jerky slow motion footage?
unless i put it through a filter?
thanks,
amber

oh, just read above, the 60fps doesn't hold for 24pn!! Which should be obvious, its probably a reason,
or *the* reason why a p2 card can record twice as much in pn than in p.

How do you get to your NLE project setting in FCP and change it to the frame rate you want?

Not sure about FCP as I use Adobe Premiere Pro and Edius Broadcast ...
In Premiere and Edius you simply choose a preset that has the 23.98 fps setting for the timeline, or you can simply select 23.98 fps as a choice when customizing a new project to open.

Is anyone familiar with FCP, it is a little different. I need help.
