View Full Version : Is the HVX170 PAL/NTSC switchable?

Can someone who is going to NAB please check whether the 20 frame rates advertised for the new HVX170 include standard PAL rates (eg 25p and 50i)? One of the big problems for filmmakers in PAL regions such as EU and Australasia interested in the HVX200 has been how much more expensive the PAL version of the camera is (ie 50% more!). Thanks heaps.

PAL/NTSC switchability is mentioned in one brochure but if I remember wel Barry told that Jan told it is not for sure yet. So no 100% conformation yet.

I thought that in Europe, for HD PAL and NTSC were equivalent? I'm assuming that's not the case

Same resolution, color space, etc but frame rates are different, since here electrical power is 50hz. So Europe is 25fps.

I heard Jan mention that it's still up for debate, but it sounds like at the very least it may be offered as a factory upgrade if desired. I hope so. I could live with that, if it is at least an option. It is something I want really bad, but I recognize that it may not be that highly desired by others, and there is no sense in passing along the cost to everyone.

I hope that in the future, all cameras will have this feature.

Yeah. for me this sucks. I happen to travel a lot between 50/60 hz countries and i need this. The fact is that, it's been on sony cameras for sometime now, so i think Pana should do it, IMO. I wanna have the chance to shoot 60 fps if i want so and not being tied to max 50 as I am at my HVX.

And I don't want to get into fluorescent lights talk...

Jan told me Panasonic is debating hard if they should offer the option. She is fighting 'FOR' it though. So, Panasonic is going to open up a public poll to see the support for the 50/60hz switchable option very soon. So remember to cast your vote when that happens.

I am strongly 'FOR' the option.

I *almost* bought a HVX200 a few years ago. But NTSC/PAL switchability killed the deal.
