Hey,

Did a quick search for trackless dollies and couldn't find anything on the forums. Looking for something like this:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=38137

for $100 or less either online or in hardware stores. Any suggestions? I am pretty sure as that one above is metal it'll vibrate a lot.

Thanks for the help!

I'm sure if you go to just about any hardware store, they'll have some in there. It's basically a wagon. And I'm sure you could make one for much less than $100 pretty easily

Actually was on a shoot a couple of months ago where they used this exact rig on a gym floor - ran the tires a little soft and it worked out quite well.

I have one of them to haul gear around, but I got it on sale for like $40, it was a steal.

as far as using it as a dolly, it's pretty much worthless on anything but a completely flat surface. I haven't tried it on a smooth surface so I'll try to get a few shots for you in the next day or two.

I was wondering why people are wanting these.... You are completely dependant on your location surface. Gym floor, sure. But streets, sidewalks etc would be cinematic suicide. I would want something that is more versatile.

Those are a great tool for a moving hand-held platform.

What's the difference between a trackless dolly and one with a track? Which one is the best for smooth shot?

if it would be smooth it'd be easier to get long outside dolly shots because you wouldn't need to set up all the track etc

Not sure if you have a Northern Tools by you, but they have a much better selection.
