Shooting 1080 24PA and editing in FCP 5.1.4, I understand the pull down in the edit, but the footage shows what I call the stair step thing which I think is caused by fast pan.

Is there a way to minimize it, do I use a faster shutter like 180d to 200d, say and if so what is the fastest I can use and will it help?

Thanks in advance.

You didn't remove the pull down. With PA you have to remove the pull down before you edit.

Brian,

Thanks for the info, I understand when to use the pulldown in the editing process.

It is the artifacts or stair steps effects, caused by motion I am concerned about.

I am looking for some advice on how to cut the stair step artifacts down a little.

To do that can you increase the shutter speed from 180 to 260 or so?

Will adjusting the f stops help?

Is this just a product of fast pan and if so would the effect be visable in tracking a walking or running person?

Thanks in advance
