View Full Version : DVX100A board blown...need advice
Hi all,
I posted previously in technical about the problem I am having getting a DVX100A board. BTW I am in Australia. Things have gone from bad to worse.
My authorised repairier still can't get a board (PAL Part #: VEP04817B) for the DVX from Panasonic and it has been almost 8 months now.
- Does anyone know if the boards are out of production and can't be obtained?
- Will an NTSC board work (clutching at straws)?
Any advice appreciated

I have had the same issue and have made a bunch of posts trying to find parts or a solution without any luck. Basically Panasonic is discontinuing parts for the DVX so we are all going to be SOL very quickly. It has been a year for me looking for a PC Component Board. It is a very frustrating issue. I will never buy another Panasonic product.

The PCB's, printed circuit boards, have been discontinued.
Your only option is to do repairs at the component level...meaning you have an engineer go through each and every circuit looking for a bad part and replacing it. This a very time consuming and costly repair process which many find reason enough to walk away from and choose a simpler, more economical long term solution of buying a new camera instead of wasting time and money repairing the old one.
The down side to component level repairs is while the one damaged part on the PCB may be identified and repaired, the age of the entire board is now in question and odds are if one component has gone bad, others are soon to follow. For this reason most engineers prefer to replace an entire board instead of resorting to component level repairs.
Best of luck with your situation.
Bugger me.
Thanks for replying guys. Appreciate the time.

DVX100b parts discontinued to?
No, that's a current model still being sold.
In theory couldn't you fit some parts of the 100B into the 100A?
Other than the boards that have buttons on them since they are located in a different spot on the camera.

Does anyone here have a pic whereabouts the board is inside the camera?
If Rob Myers can't help you out:
I have a non-working PAL DVX100A with a damaged lens and flip-out LCD at home (I'm pretty sure that it's a 100A, but it may be a 100 - I'll check)
It's partially disassembled, and there are a few bits missing - but if the board is in there, I may be able to help ya out :)
I'm in New Zealand too - so it won't cost an arm and leg to ship it :)
Cheers

Credit to you Rob and Panny Aus. In the past year I have made about 100 negative posts here and a few other locations spreading the good word about how I feel Panny is screwing me and potentially screwing anyone that buys a DVX. As I try and always say, it is a great camera but a now 4 y/o camera that I can't get parts for?!?!?! I have sworn off Panasonic products across the board and the network that I do a lot of work for has as well because of this situation. All over a less than $100 part. Now Newt has had a different experience, a positive one and is likely to continue dropping money into Pannys pockets. I know of at least 4 HVX's and an HPX that would have been purchased if this hadn't happened to me.
I wish I lived in Australia
I just got back into town. Thanks everyone for the support, and thanks Peter for the assist and generous offer, and thanks Rob from Panasonic for throwing out a hand to a customer, it is appreciated even though I didn't have the opportunity to get in touch.
I got a call from my repairer and they managed to get a board after all this time and it arrived a day or so ago, so that is wonderful news. A ten month wait, but hopefully a happy ending (I'm still waiting for the call to pick it up).
Thanks guys

I just got the DVX back but they blew out the phantom power on the camera so I can't use any mics with phantom only, and also the rec and player lights come on when the unit is off (battery still in).....which I've never seen before.
Such a sorry experience really.

Panasonic Australia
Hi Rob,
Thanks for the offer, and I think I will send it down to Melbourne to let the Panasonic team have look at it. It is very much appreciated. :)
Just an update,
The guys from Panasonic Australia in Melbourne have repaired my camera and it is back in my hands. I cannot praise Rob Myers and his team enough for their professionalism, courtesy, genuine customer care, and quick response to my camera woes.
In my experience, I can now say the best customer service I have had has been from Panasonic Australia with Rob Myers and also with Arri Australia in Sydney. It goes to show the industry still knows how to treat customers.
Thanks Rob and his team, your assistance has been very greatly appreicated and won't be forgottten :)
