Hi everyone!
I am so sorry for my poor and bad english, but anyway...
I have a Canon XH A1
I founded the threads from here: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=116375&highlight=Indisliderpro
and here:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=115998
and decided to make the thing like indiSLIDERpro
http://www.indifocus.com/products_indisliderpro.htm
You can download my test clip, and watch how it works. It's just a test, no more.
www.indexseattle.com/video/samples/slider.wmv
(71 mb, 1280x720 24f, 2 minutes, wmv)
And it works fine (I guess)! The cost of my DIY slider is $190.00 (for 24"). I
took the SGB35-3UU version from http://www.automation4less.com/store/products.asp?cat=1203
I think I made slider like the "Indislider" 24", but for $190.00 only.
For detail photos of my DIY slider take a look on my web site

Best,
Slava.

wow... awesome. I do a lot to nature photography and action sports, so I'm definitely going to build one of these after seeing yours.

does this act or take the place of a dolly?

Nice work, i'd think you might want to seal the ends so your camera does not roll off..

Good looking footage. I wonder if you can get the Manfrotto head lower to the sled? It might take the very little vibration out that is perceptible in the longer lens.

Thanks all for your responses!
Replying to everybody at once (asked my wife to correct my English ):
1) Yes, it acts as dolly, but on more "gentle scope".
2) On pictures (3rd and the one before the last one) - you can see
limiting bolts with rubber heads.
3) It is designed to fix the head very firmly. There is no vibration
induced by sledding moves. Note: this particular device is meant to be
used in "gentle and slow" mode. I tried it with 2.2x telephoto and with
native zoom on top of it - no visible vibrations. Of course, if a
grain of sand gets under the rail - you'll get some vibration...
The same will happen if you sniff :).

Very interesting Slava, I congratulate you, could you be kind enough to give us a list of the items that you used to build it?
Thanks.

I just got the track and slider today, but I'm having a hard time finding a base. Where did you get that vice?

I'm just using wood and a 3/8 inch bolt to a bogen adapter.

I'm going to be using this slider to make money, so it needs to look good, wood wont cut it. I have a quick release plate on the way, I just need some sort of steel or aluminum platform.

Paint it black for gods sake. Or go to onlinemetals.com and order a piece of aluminum to the same dimensions...here's the caveat though...you'll have to drill and tap the holes and line'em up exactly and make sure they're close to the m10 hole size. Anywhoo, got mine working lovely...and i've got wood...wood is good. I had to first drill a 3/8 hole and then hit it with a 1/2 inch bit to countersink the bolt, and still had to carve out part of the platform to place a lock washer in the hole. Buy a 3/8 countersink to save yourself the aggravation. I already had a bogen bowl adapter so i'm using my 516 with little to no wobble. This thing is awesome, and with a little know how wood will cut it.

Nice find, I'm curious if this slider makes any noise when in use? I've looked at some other linear bearings to use as a slider but they always made too much noise when moving. It was a gentle "shhhhing" sound from the bearings.

Lol, I can almost hear it. I had the vxb bearings and it was'nt a gentle shhhing, it was more like awe shit this is not gonna work. This thing is extremely quiet...i mean you'd have to make an extremely fast move to register it on the internal mic let alone an external one.

If you tilt it on an angle, will it roll on its own?

Can you take photos of the setup? I'm wondering how you got the camera to stay on it.
edit: didn't see above post
double edit: i'm still confused on how you got it on, what are those three pieces you used to attach the head? and is there a simpler way?

SORRY THIS IS IN THE WRONG THREAD.
I purchased the same stuff as specified at the beginning of this thread. About $160.00 total, delivered. It turned out pretty nice. Still have to take it out to get some footy though.
NOTICE that my 503 head sits directly on the carriage and the 75 mm half ball fits directly in the bowl AS USUAL.

Pretty cool. I want to build me a slider too, but I'm still undecided between this one and Zaza's (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=145701)
Somehow the rails on this one look more stable than the one Zaza used. But Zaza's seems simpler and easier to build.

I'm sure they are both very stable.
