Wondering if anyone knows if the flip out LCD will be better on the new Panasonics. Also wondering when they'll become available. I think I'll opt for the 170 myself -- I like that it's smaller and the lens is wider.

They said nothing about it in the press release so assume not =P

All the Panasonics look like they have the same LCD. The 170 and 150 I saw were non-functional models, but all the rest of them look the same. I'd bet it's the same across the line.
And as far as 170 vs. 200 -- from what I saw, and assuming that the image produced is identical between them, I think the 170 is going to be the hotter seller. The only real reason to go for the 200A over the 170 would be if you needed the tape. Now, that all presumes that the images are consistent; obviously if the 200A has a better image then that'd sway anyone's opinion.
Not sure if this has been discussed here already BUT. . . I could swear that Jan told me that another feature of the HPX170 is that it's lens ring can switch between focus and aperture control. Thought that was pretty cool! Along with the improved image sensors, HD-SDI out and built-in waveform/histogram, etc.!

I'd expect the HPX170s to be on the dealers shelf around the end of the year.
HVX200AP, we have them on the shelf now. :)

It can, but the cool part is that your existing HVX200 can already do this. Assign "FOCUS RING" to a user button, and put the cam in autofocus mode, and press that button. Now the focus ring will control iris instead.
I learn something new everyday. Courtesy of Barry Green!

anyone else think panny missed an opportunity to install an image flip feature in camera, like the HD250?

They didn't miss it, they installed it. At least for the LCD. Or do you mean for recording also? Man, I nagged them for that.
Anyway, flipping is sooooo 2006. All the good adapters have flip modules already.
That's right - they DID install the image flip for viewing only. That's nice, but too bad it couldn't be recorded that way. And you're right, all the flip modules are out for the "good" adapters. And the Letus has it BUILT IN. Cool!
However, if there was some way to record flipped footage, that would be so awesome. Save some light and some weight. Unfortunately, it is technically impossible (see my last post) to enable that within the current architecture.
