If you want to try After Effects for free, download the trial. If you want to keep it for free, we certainly can't help you because that's not what this forum is about.

If you want a good price on it, consider buying an educational license if you are a student or affilliated with a school. It's also cheaper to buy the Adobe Digital Video bundle.

Its tricky setting out learning a program that costs a bunch when you are not making money from it. Its kind of like a loop hole. Get the software when you have the money, or when you have the money from work get the software, but getting the money from work requires the software.

I know lots of people who started off by "acquiring" the software, then paying for it when a job paid well.

What are you talking about loop hole? Work your day job for the money. Buy the program and then learn it. Not rocket science. If you can save the money for a dvx or whatever then save money for your software.
