Hey everybody out there,

I am a writing junkie who is about to become a techno junkie, and I just joined DVXuser last night.

All the research I've done over the past couple of months has convinced me that the DVX100a is the proper tool to begin bringing my growing pile of screenplays to life. My biggest problem is that I'm technologically challenged (I'm still afraid of my fax machine). Can anyone suggest a good package of accessories to get started - especially editing software. I will if I must, but I'm not too keen on dropping $5,000 on a Mac that's pre-loaded with Final Cut Pro. Is there any good editing software that will run on my HP?

P.S. I stayed up way too late last night surfing this site. I'm hooked already.

Welcome MelMaverick. The easy set up (for me) was imovie on the powerbook G4 using the DVX100. Very easy downloading and very easy editing system. I have done some great editing with that set up for well over 20 films. Cost factor not too bad.

Hi,

I wouldn't spend too much. I think I would likely recommend Vegas Studio. It's cheap, the interface is like Vegas Pro, the upgrade to pro is pretty much quid pro quo, so if you like it, you'll get your money's worth back and learn from it as well.

Good luck!

For editing on a PC, SpeedEDIT is what the name says. It's fast and speedy to learn.
My GFX and Lighting guys are diehard FCP guys. After the first couple sessions they reluctantly admitted they loved SpeedEDIT. They both have copies for their own use now!

Or just get Vegas Pro :)

If you are a college student anywhere you might want to check to see if you can get deals on software. The discount is usually pretty extensive, at my school I can get the FCP suite for $600 ($1,200 orig price)

Personally I am a big fan of Adobe Premiere, but many people dislike it because its rather a pain in the behind to learn. I hear Vegas is a pretty good system and easy to use.

If you're a student, you can buy Avid Media Composer for $289 from studica.com. The software will run on both PC and Mac.

In my opinion, Avid is the best editing software there is. I work in Hollywood as a professional editor and Avid is the industry standard for editing.
