... I haven't made it yet, but I just realized a bicycle rim would make a killer rim for a fig rig. ... aluminum and light.

..okay. thats all I had. haha

even kewler is to find a bicyle fork to make a figrig stand..

ie superclamp on a baby c-stand, insert bicycle fork) and voila temporary relief on the arms on a long shoot ;)

i'll post pics soon (i've gone through 2 incarnations of figrig stand, took a while to find something sturdy & cheap with a smaller footprint than a c-stand).

Yeah that would work. Man I have so many old rims in my garage I should try that...

Here is my figrest v3... version 1 never saw the light of day (the idea was to vertically mount the bike fork on a stand but things were easier horizontalyl.

The reason for V3 was i needed smaller footprint than the baby C stand for cramped locations.

if i were to make a v4, it would be with tiny steering wheel for the base ;)

for reasons, i can't explain, i hate the clamp in the middle on the bottom unless i'm putting it on a tripod, thus my need for a figrest.

It's more solid than it looks (due to the 15lb weight of that small bar on the base) and survived 36 torture testing with occasional kicking and bumping into the rest.

total cost : $5 for the used fork, $21 for the weird pipe stand, $7 alumin pipe extension + weighted bar..

I wouldn't want to hang my camera upside down, but maybe thats just me. Nice work the build though. What is the stand made of?

a) too lazy to tape up the top of the figrig---it just slides sideways until it comes to a rest on the gripped part. probably because metal on metal is slippery. and maybe a little bit due to imbalance caused by the first generation varizoom controller. so instead of adding more tape on top, just left it the way it was.

b) it's sturdy galvanized pipe. the device is sold tool stand accessory to clip onto a workbench or sawhorse.. It was cheap and had a small footprint, although if i have to do it again, i'd get a small steering wheel from a junkyard for the base.

a) Very impressed with the shock absorping belt thing.
b) The floor stand bothers me... it is ingenious engineering for the smallest foot print for a functional floor stand yet all i envison is the camera getting kicked. maybe not by the camera operator, but somebody else on set... i find it sits too low and nearly transparent with the background.

i've just have many bad experiences with stray feet (or heads bumping into booms even with yellow flags) which i why i mention this.

c) any reason why no pricing if it is supposed to ship within a month?
