I have a job on Monday for a new client where he wants me to shoot a interview on greenscreen in 1080i 60i . I am taking over from a crew that shot with an hdv camera ( i am not sure which one) and this is the format they used. This job is basically shooting talking heads. Now, I have never even shot this camera in this format. I always shoot progressive 30p or 24p, knowing this is the best image quality. My question is does 1080i 60i greenscreen well and would it even look any different if I shot it a 30p (compared to the hdv footage) . I feel like 30p would be the best way to shoot it but I don't want to open a can of worms if I don't have to. Also, this is being shown on the web .

I too haven't done any 60i stuff. I did have a similar client hire me to shoot an interview and we needed to match it to the 60i that came out of a sony HDV camera. We battled around a bunch of times about them needing 60i, but I told them that the 30p would look better.. smoother and ultimately I couldn't vouch for the 60i and that's what convinced them. I said that I'm comfortable doing progressive but not the other. They decided to listen to me.. allowing me to get the best quality and in post they said it matched very well.

I'd say that your HVX will probably key better and look a bit better, so why dumb it down. Sometimes we have to stick to our guns...

One thing I'd say to do is take 10 minutes at the beginning and shoot a test of both.. especially if you have a laptop that you can show them the footie on.. Cheers and good luck.
