Weird question indeed. I am shooting with another camera tomorrow and I don't want to take the chance on busted audio from said camera.

So, I think I'm going to take my HVX Along and run all of the audio to the HVX, then sync in FCP.

Which recording format should I be shooting in for the longest record times and best audio? I was assuming 720p24pN and doing a visual slate (piece of paper or something) to help me sync audio with the RED ONE footage, but not actually shooting B-Roll with the HVX. (Maybe on the Fly BTS lol)

Any advice is welcomed.

720p24pN should give you the lowest video bitrate about 40mbps if I remember correctly. So that will give you best sound and most capacity. Personally, I'd just strap a MD recorder to the side, record in PCM and be done with it.

DV25 would get you two tracks of uncompressed PCM audio at a total recording bitrate of 25Mbps, perfect for the XLR inputs.

So, would it be ideal to record 2 tracks of Uncompressed or 4 tracks of Uncompressed audio?

There's a lot of dialog in the short. I do want to give them the best audio since they sort of skimped out on that (didn't get an actual audio guy.)

Thanks for the answers.

If you think the audio from the internal mikes will be useful for what you are doing in addition to the external audio feed, then need four tracks and DVCProHD at 24PN would give you the most capacity.

THanks T! I think I'll use 720pN then.

Just keep in mind that you cant controll the internal mics anymore if you record with to aditional mics to track 3 and 4 ...make sure you set the audiolevel...but you got definitly all those details allready in your mind..!

Just wandering why a guy like you is not using an extra sound device like Tascam or Diva..

I was always under the impression that audio quality is better on DV50/100
