Hi there, just want to know what people think about this "new" idea (I haven't seen anything like it yet, if I'm wrong sorry)

So there are vibrating and rotating focusing ground glass substitutes, how about a piston type set up?

Illustrated in ASCII below, lol (I have paper drawn diagrams but I just came up with this idea today, so no time to do any advanced planning)

Motor .......Disk/Gear (Wont let me use space so . = space)

|--------------|...|===b......Joint
| Small Motor|=|......|.......Arm
|--------------|...|..... |.......Arm
............................b.......Joint
............................||
............................||
............................|| Ground glass moves up and down with every rotation
............................||

In my mind you could have this set up in a hobby box above your pvc tube, with a tiny arm hole cut out for the arm to move up and down.
Benefits in my mind are less sound (Padded hobby box)
All in one, motor, battery, control.
Add a pot on there and you can varry the speed.

Looking for advice/input
Will add some jpeg drawings if you cant invision what the ASCII shows

That is sweet, at first I thought he was just going to spin the glass on the belt, leaving the center non moving, but that is just awesome.

Another method I thought of was using magnets and a circuit that just repels and attracts like the arm of a old alarm clock.... come to think of it, that would make a kick ass steam punk dof adapter, using an wind up alarm clock.

drk3p,

Your idea would have an undesireable acceleration profile that might turn up in the image and would require a lot of battery power.

Thanks, I think Im going to do a rotating design, found most of my parts, some being shipped in from eBay.
But what about the alarm clock, come on, that would be so bad ass.
